The Scenario: Do you ever think about rental car insurance? Maybe you should. Read on – this happens all the time. You come out of Walmart and somebody has been so NICE (read with sarcasm) to hit the rear quarter of your 2011 Honda and didn’t leave a note or wait for you. Karma people, that’s all I have to say!!! If da bum had just stayed and had insurance, their coverage would pay for your repair and rental car. The extra bad news if they have left: your insurance is going to own the repair bill or you’ll pay out of pocket AND with no rental car insurance you will have that bill also! WAAAA!
How Renting Works: Your collision repairs might take anywhere from two days to two weeks depending on the extent of the damage. Acme Body Shop has a great arrangement with Hertz, so we take the hassle out of the logistics. Hertz meets you right here at Acme with the paperwork . That’s it. So simple. But renting a car isn’t free. http://www.hertz.com/ If there is no rental car insurance involvement, the retail price off the street can be anywhere from $50-60 a day! YIKES! Who needs a $700 bill for a two week rental?
Saving Your Pennies: What can you do to avoid this unplanned hit to your budget? RENTAL CAR INSURANCE PEOPLE!!! Every insurer has it available, but only the good agents and insurers make sure you have it. Because, let’s face it, rental car insurance is not a money maker for them! My policy through my agent adds $10 per year for 30 days rental coverage. You do the math! Can you see why the rental car insurance coverage is not heavily promoted?
We Tested Online Quotes: We think it is better to work with a good agent who should be looking out for things you don’t think about. Selling you a policy at the lowest price – like they do online – isn’t always in your best interest. Both Geico and Progressive have rental car insurance options, but in some instances they are not added automatically or are “not recommended.” Prices for me: $20-$22 per year.
The Take-Away Lesson: Don’t be caught short on this issue! Protect yourself and your wallet! It is so cheap. For less than $25/year, you can make sure you have rental car insurance coverage if your car is in the shop for repairs. A two week rental at $50/day without rental car insurance = $700. Cha-ching!
Don’t Worry! Be Happy! If you don’t have rental car insurance, Acme will still work to help you out. We have a great relationship and better rates from Hertz. You know Acme Body Shop is always good to you and we do everything we can to take care of you. Don’t let this worry stop you from getting your car repaired with us. Trust us to help you figure it out.
What Happened To The Loaner Cars? Here’s the skinny. Acme always had a small fleet of loaner cars available to help customers who did not have rental car insurance. Current changes by the insurance companies have made it impossible to do this any longer. NOT our choice! In a nutshell, when you borrowed a car from us in the past, your own collision insurance coverage took care of any problems – it was the FIRST coverage on any accidents, etc. Insurance companies changed the wording in their policies so that companies like Acme loaning you the car as a courtesy now are FIRST to bat with any problems – we assume the spot of the primary insurer which is just an unlimited exposure that most shops can no longer shoulder.
Just Do It: CALL your agent today – or call your insurance carrier – and get that rental car insurance coverage added. It will pay for itself with just ONE day of needing to rent a car!!
